*Big sigh*
I'm starting to feel the weight of wisdom. As I sit through my philosophy and design classes, I find myself constantly drawn to another topic: purpose. Tommy Nelson, a travelling pastor/motivational speaker, opened up this morning's discussion with Luke 19. Guess what he covered? Purpose. I've posted my notes below.
Luke 19: Seek&Save
What purpose are we called to?
Life’s 2 Big Questions:
How can I be saved?
Why am I left here?
…Why are we left in the gap?
V - 12 Parable of the Prince leaving to inherit his kingdom, sets 10 ‘representatives’ in his stead
13 “Do my business – make a profit!” Prince leaves each servant 10 minas
14 Business demands great courage – let others know who has sent you
- Adversity will prove character, dedication to the master
- Subjects do not like the Prince!
15 Prince (now King) returns to judge his servants’ work
- First servant – doubled (+10 minas) his share, given 10 cities to rule over
- Second servant – increased (+5) his share, given 5 cities to rule over
- Third servant – buried his coin for his own pride’s sake, king calls him ‘enemy’
Jesus did not die in a corner, nor will his name be kept a secret!
24 To everyone who has been faithful, more will be given. First servant gets #3's 10 minas.
God’s will for your life is the exaltation of Christ.
There’s something inbred in the heart of man, from the days of Adam,
which longs for the justice, truth, and righteousness found only in Christ.
I, of course, drew an equally cool picture to accompany the notes, but I do not possess a scanner. Sorry.
The past 3 weeks or so have been very difficult for me -- emotionally, spiritually, physically. I sleep about 4 hours a night, if at all, and yet, somehow, I manage to find joy. Raised in a nation of peak individualism, it's easy to imagine why I find the thought of an omniscient God a bit scary. He really does know me better than I know myself. Just this week I read Psalm 1-72 in one sit, then decided "what the heck, why not 1 more?" and read 73. I tell you, nothing in the first 72 spoke to me as personally and intimately as the words I almost didn't read. Then, by his grace, I was able to readminister the same message of healing within a matter of days to a friend experiencing similar trials. Is that cool or what? If this post feels like mindless babble to you, maybe it is. I welcome you to the love, but you have to come on your own for the message to truly sink in. Believe me, it works.
I hope this post finds you -- all my eFriends -- yearning for more than this world has to offer. Peace&Love
