How to Deal

Let's turn immigration into an analogy for purpose of clarity. Immigration is like a pizza. First, there are several different ways one makes a pizza, just like there are several types of immigration. Not everyone likes the same toppings, so those who are hungry must either eat what everyone else is having or try to negotiate according to their own desires/tastes. That, by far, is the most difficult aspect of pizza and immigration.

How do we agree to deal with immigration without offending anyone? Should we conform to the standards of the law-breaking Latinos and freely accept their presence or provide amnesty? One side says no because we will lose our respect and power. Listen up, here's the clincher: if we do not choose to support the laws currently in place, but rather undermine them according to collective opinion, we are admitting that the values of our country has already established are meaningless. As far as I'm concerned, that makes for one ugly track record. It is naive to consider that making the decision of immigration reform has no effect what so ever on the reputation of the government in control. The ancient proverb "Think before you speak" has some validity in this case -- we cannot afford to be divided as a nation right now.

The War on Terrorism, the partisan tensions, and natural disasters have all began to cause rifts among the American people, but I encourage the nation to embrace a unified opinion on the issue of immigration. If we're tired of relinquishing our personal benefits, rights, and freedoms so that you can live here illegally, then it's time for some change.
